Life Cycle collections are designed to divert unwanted household goods from landfill for reuse by industry and some local charities. Some charities will resell any quality goods whilst unwanted items will be recycled by industry to manufacture new goods, for example: plastic covers from mobile phones can be recycled into fence posts.
Life Cycle has been introduced to reduce household waste and divert product from landfill sites while also supporting those in need. It is a unique opportunity to create a more sustainable future for your family and the environment and is set to become the future of waste management worldwide.
The Life Cycle service occurs 3 times a year and is provided on the next working day following your normal recycling service. So if your normal recycling service is collected on a Monday then the Life Cycle special collection will be Tuesday. Should your normal recycling service be on a Friday, your Life Cycle service will be collected on the Monday following.
A list of recyclable household goods are specified on the What is Life Cycle? page. Please do not place any other products or recyclables in your recycling bin on your specified Life Cycle collection day as it will result in non-collection.
Household goods will be sorted into product groups to be used by charity and industry groups. Charities will select products for resale via their retail stores while industry will use some products to manufacture new goods.
